Mailbox security

Change a mailbox password in Plesk

Reset the password for a mailbox hosted on a UKC Plesk server, then update every device and application that uses it. The server change is immediate and the old password stops working.

Change it in PleskThe mailbox password is separate from your Client Area and Plesk login passwords.

Update every devicePhones, computers, websites and scanners may keep trying the old password.

Test webmail firstA successful webmail login proves the new mailbox credentials work.

Use the correct password

Mailbox, Client Area and Plesk are different accounts

Changing the mailbox password affects IMAP, POP, SMTP and webmail for that email address. It does not change the password used to sign in to the UKC Client Area or the Plesk control panel.

If the address is hosted by another email provider, change it there rather than in Plesk.

Before changing

Find every place that uses the mailbox

Phones and tabletsCheck both incoming and outgoing account settings.

Mail applicationsOutlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird and other profiles need the new password.

Websites and applicationsContact forms, CRM systems and monitoring tools may authenticate through SMTP.

Office equipmentScanners, printers and network devices can continue sending old credentials.

Plesk steps

Set the new password

1

Log in to PleskUse “Log in to Plesk” beside the correct UKC hosting service.

2

Open MailSelect the full email address you want to update.

3

Enter a strong unique passwordUse Plesk’s generator where available, or create a long password not used by any other account.

4

Save the accountThe old password stops working as soon as Plesk applies the change.

Update clients

Replace the saved password everywhere

Update the incoming and outgoing server credentials on each device. The username is normally the complete email address. Keep the server names, ports and encryption settings unchanged unless you are correcting a separate configuration problem.

Stop devices repeatedly using the old password.

Repeated failed logins can cause a temporary IP block. Turn off mail syncing on devices you cannot update immediately.

Verification

Test in a controlled order

1

Sign in to webmailUse the complete email address and new password.

2

Send to an external addressThis checks authenticated outgoing SMTP.

3

Reply back to the mailboxThis checks incoming delivery and mailbox access.

4

Update one device at a timeConfirm each works before proceeding to the next.

Troubleshooting

If the new password appears not to work

  • Confirm you are using the full email address as the username.
  • Type the password rather than relying on an old saved credential.
  • Test webmail in a private window.
  • Check that the device is using the relevant UKC server hostname and encrypted ports.
  • If webmail works but one application does not, correct that application rather than resetting the password again.
  • If every device stopped after repeated failures, wait briefly and contact support with your public IP address.
