Choose the right object
Create a subdomain when the address needs its own website files or application. Use a domain alias when another name should show the same website, or add a separate domain for an unrelated registered name.
Create in Plesk
Add the subdomain
- Open the active hosting service from My Services and log in to Plesk.
- Open Websites & Domains.
- Select Add Subdomain.
- Enter only the prefix, such as shop, and select the correct parent domain.
- Review the proposed document root. Use a separate directory unless the subdomain intentionally shares content.
- Select OK or Create.
Public routing
Confirm DNS reaches the hosting server
- DNS managed by this Plesk server
- Plesk normally creates the subdomain record automatically. Allow time for caches to update.
- UKC parked-domain DNS
- Add the subdomain A record in Domain Tools and point it to the assigned hosting server IP.
- External DNS provider
- Create the A or CNAME record there. A record created only in Plesk will not affect public DNS.
- Proxy or CDN
- Add the hostname to that service and configure the origin according to its supported process.
Website content
Publish into the subdomain’s document root
Upload files, install WordPress, start Sitejet or deploy the application specifically to the new subdomain. Confirm the document root before installation so content does not overwrite the parent website.
Do not reuse a live document root accidentally
If two hostnames point to the same directory, changing or deleting one site can affect the other. Back up first whenever existing files are present.
Secure the hostname
Issue a certificate after DNS resolves
- Confirm the subdomain resolves publicly to the UKC hosting server.
- Open SSL/TLS Certificates or the Let’s Encrypt action for the domain.
- Include the new subdomain and issue or renew the certificate.
- Enable HTTPS redirection only after the secure URL opens without a certificate warning.
Final checks
Test before sharing the address
- The hostname resolves to the intended server.
- It serves the subdomain content, not the parent or Plesk default page.
- HTTPS opens with the expected certificate.
- Application links, forms and scheduled tasks use the correct URL.
Subdomain not opening correctly?
Send the full subdomain, parent domain, hosting service, assigned UKC server, public DNS provider and what the browser displays. Never send passwords.
