Plesk hosted email

How to create a mailbox in Plesk

Create an address on your UKC hosting subscription, set a secure password and confirm the domain’s mail route points to the same UKC server.

This creates a hosted Plesk mailbox

Use these steps when the domain and email are hosted on a UKC Plesk service. For a domain-only Custom Domain Email product, create and manage the mailbox from Domain Tools instead.

Log in to the assigned Plesk server

  1. Sign in to the UKC Client Area.
  2. Open Services > My Services.
  3. Select the active hosting service containing the domain.
  4. Choose Log in to Plesk once and wait for the panel to open.
  5. Confirm the expected domain is listed before creating the address.

Add a mailbox in Plesk

  1. Open Mail in Plesk.
  2. Select Create Email Address.
  3. Enter the part before @ and select the correct domain from the list.
  4. Leave Mailbox enabled when messages should be stored on the server.
  5. Generate or enter a strong, unique password.
  6. Choose an appropriate mailbox size within the hosting plan’s available capacity.
  7. Add an optional description that helps identify the mailbox owner, then select OK.

Do not enable Plesk login unless it is required

The option allowing the address owner to log in to Plesk creates an additional panel user. A normal mailbox does not need this. Leave it disabled unless that person genuinely needs controlled access to the hosting panel.

Check the domain’s mail route

Creating a mailbox does not change public DNS. The domain’s MX record must direct mail to the UKC hosting service and the selected domain must have mail service enabled in Plesk.

UKC nameservers
Review DNS Manager and confirm the MX and mail host records match the assigned hosting server.
External nameservers
Update MX records at the external DNS provider; changes made only in Plesk will not control public delivery.
Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
Do not point MX to Plesk unless you intend to replace that provider’s incoming-mail route.
Existing mail on another server
Plan mailbox migration and DNS timing before changing MX records.

Use webmail before configuring a device

  1. Open the webmail address supplied for the domain or server.
  2. Sign in with the complete email address and the new mailbox password.
  3. Send a message to an external address and reply back to the new mailbox.
  4. Confirm both messages arrive before adding Outlook, Apple Mail or a phone.

If the mailbox does not work

Address already exists
Check Mail for an existing mailbox, forwarder or alias with the same name.
Cannot create mailbox
Check the hosting plan’s mailbox count and disk capacity.
Webmail login fails
Reset the mailbox password in Plesk and use the full email address as the username.
Sending works, receiving fails
Check public MX records and ensure Plesk mail service is enabled for the domain.
Receiving works, sending fails
Use authenticated SMTP on the assigned UKC server hostname.
Certificate warning
Use the assigned UKC server hostname, such as ukc12.uk, rather than a hostname without a matching certificate.

Still unable to create or use the mailbox?

Send the domain, requested address, hosting service, assigned UKC server, exact error and whether webmail sending or receiving fails. Never include the mailbox password.
