Remove a domain from Plesk safely

Removing a website or subdomain from Plesk deletes its hosting data. Confirm the correct subscription and take a tested backup before using this permanent action.

Destructive actionWebsite files and associated hosting data are removed.

Back up firstDownload a recoverable copy before deletion.

Primary domain differsThe subscription’s main domain may need renaming instead.

Before removal

Check exactly what the domain contains

  • Website files, application configuration and uploaded content.
  • Databases or database users used by the site.
  • Mailboxes, aliases and forwards associated with the domain.
  • Certificates, scheduled tasks, logs and custom hosting settings.
Removing hosting does not cancel domain registration.

Domain billing and registrar status are managed separately in the UKC Client Area.

Removal steps

Delete the website or subdomain

  1. Create and download a current backup.
  2. Open Websites & Domains in the correct Plesk subscription.
  3. Locate the exact domain or subdomain and choose Remove Website or Remove Subdomain.
  4. Read the confirmation carefully, then confirm only if the domain and scope are correct.

Primary domain

The subscription’s first domain may not be removable

Plesk may require the subscription’s primary domain to be renamed rather than deleted. If other sites share the subscription, do not remove the subscription itself.

For current interface details, see Plesk’s domain removal documentation.
