A registrar transfer does not normally move hosting

The existing nameservers remain on the domain unless you change them. Keep the current DNS service active throughout the transfer so the website and email continue working.

Make the domain transferable

  1. Confirm the domain is active and not close to expiry.
  2. Disable its transfer or registrar lock.
  3. Check that the registrant email address can receive approval messages.
  4. Request the transfer authorisation code, also called an AuthInfo or EPP code.
  5. Check whether a recent registration, transfer or registrant change has placed the domain under a temporary transfer restriction.

Place a transfer order

  1. Open UKC's domain transfer page and enter the complete domain name.
  2. Sign in to the UKC account that should manage the domain.
  3. Enter the transfer code when requested and complete checkout.
  4. Follow any approval link sent to the registrant or account email.
  5. Leave the domain unlocked until the transfer completes.

Watch for approval and rejection messages

A transfer commonly completes within several days. The current registrar may allow the registrant to approve it sooner. If neither side takes action, registry policy determines when the pending request completes or fails.

  • Keep access to the current registrar until completion.
  • Do not change the registrant details during the pending transfer.
  • Check spam folders for approval messages.
  • Do not cancel hosting or DNS at the old provider merely because the registrar move has started.

If the transfer is rejected

The usual causes are an incorrect code, a remaining transfer lock, an expired domain, a temporary registry restriction or missing approval. Correct the cause before restarting; repeated orders do not remove registry restrictions.

Transfer still pending or rejected?

Send the domain and UKC order number, plus the exact status or rejection email. Never send an account password; support may ask for the transfer code through an appropriate secure route.
