Do you need to transfer the domain?
If you only want a website or email service elsewhere, change the domain's DNS records or nameservers instead. Transfer the domain only when you want another registrar to control its registration and renewals.
Before requesting a transfer
Ask the new registrar for their transfer details
Contact the receiving registrar and ask for the exact IPS tag they use for incoming .UK transfers. Also ask whether they require a transfer authorisation code or any action in their own account first.

Confirm the IPS tag carefully
An IPS tag change hands registrar control to another provider. Only use a tag supplied directly by the receiving registrar and submit the request while signed in to the UKC account that owns the domain.
Transfer procedure
Request the change from UKC
- Sign in to the UKC Client Area using the account that holds the domain.
- Open a Helpdesk ticket and select the domain-transfer or domain-support department where available.
- Include the domain name, receiving registrar and exact IPS tag.
- Tell us if the receiving registrar has asked for a transfer authorisation code or another transfer step.
- UKC will verify the request and confirm what happens next. The receiving registrar may then need to accept or complete the transfer.
What the transfer changes
Registrar control moves, services do not
- The new registrar becomes responsible for future registration management and renewals.
- The domain's renewal date is not normally extended simply because its registrar changes.
- Existing nameservers and DNS records normally remain in place unless you or the new provider change them.
- Website files, mailboxes and hosting services are not copied by a registrar transfer.
After UKC confirms the release
Check the receiving registrar's account and follow any acceptance instructions they provide. Keep your existing hosting and email services active until you have confirmed that the domain and all required services work as expected.
