Plesk account security

Change your Plesk password and sign out safely

Update the password used for direct access to your Plesk hosting panel, then end the session when your work is complete. This does not change your UKC Client Area, mailbox, FTP or database passwords.

One Plesk credentialThe change applies to direct Plesk panel access only.

Use a unique passwordDo not reuse a mailbox, Client Area or website password.

Finish securelySign out of Plesk and the Client Area on a shared device.

Before changing anything

Identify the password you need to change

  • Plesk panel password: Used when signing in directly to the hosting server control panel.
  • UKC Client Area password: Used at billing.uk-cheapest.co.uk; change it in your Client Area security settings.
  • FTP or SSH password: Managed separately under the domain's hosting-access settings.
  • Mailbox password: Changed for the individual email address in Plesk.
  • Database password: Belongs to a database user and may also need updating in the website configuration.
Client Area single sign-on is the easiest route.

Open the relevant hosting service and choose Log in to Plesk. You may not be asked for the separate Plesk password.

Change the panel password

Update your Plesk profile

  1. Open Plesk. Use the UKC Client Area shortcut or sign in directly to your assigned UKC hosting server.
  2. Open your profile. Select your name at the top of Plesk, then choose Edit Profile. Some layouts show Change Password in the navigation instead.
  3. Enter a new password. Use a long, unique value that meets the strength indicator. Confirm it exactly.
  4. Save the profile. Choose Apply or OK, depending on the panel layout.
  5. Confirm direct access if you use it. Open a private browser window and test the Plesk login before closing your existing session.

Important distinction

Other services keep their existing passwords

Changing the Plesk panel password does not automatically alter a website administrator login, FTP account, SSH account, mailbox or database user. That separation prevents an account-security change from unexpectedly disconnecting websites, devices or applications.

Do not change an application password casually.

A database, FTP or mailbox password may be stored in a website, device or scheduled task. Update every dependent configuration if that credential must change.

End the session

Sign out when you finish

  1. Open the account menu. Select your name or profile icon at the top of Plesk.
  2. Choose Log out. Wait for the Plesk sign-in screen or confirmation page.
  3. Sign out of the UKC Client Area as well when using a shared or public device.
  4. Close all related browser tabs. Do not allow the browser to save credentials on a device you do not control.
Your hosting continues running after logout.

Signing out ends only your control-panel session; it does not stop websites, databases or email.

Troubleshooting

If the new password is not accepted

  • Make sure you are signing in to the correct assigned UKC server, not a different Plesk server.
  • Use the Plesk username rather than an email address unless your assigned login is the email address.
  • Check for spaces introduced by copying and confirm Caps Lock is off.
  • Try the Client Area Log in to Plesk shortcut.
  • Use the dedicated password-reset guidance if you cannot access the profile.
