Choose the right type before adding it
Use Add Domain for a separate registered domain and independent website. Use a domain alias when another name should show the same website, or a subdomain for an address such as shop.example.co.uk.
Before you begin
Confirm the domain and hosting capacity
- The domain is registered and active.
- Your hosting plan permits another website or domain.
- You know whether UKC or another provider manages its DNS.
- You have a copy of any existing website and mail settings before changing DNS.
Create the website
Add the domain in Plesk
- Open My Services, select the hosting service and choose Log in to Plesk.
- Open Websites & Domains and select Add Domain.
- Enter the registered domain name without http, https or a path.
- Choose the website option: blank website, uploaded files, Sitejet Builder or WordPress, when available.
- Keep a unique document root so this website does not share another site's files.
- Review the DNS and mail options, then select Add Domain or OK.
Make it public
Connect the domain to this hosting server
Adding a domain in Plesk prepares the server; it does not automatically redirect public traffic. Connect the domain using the nameservers or A records supplied for your UKC hosting service. If email remains elsewhere, preserve its MX and related TXT records.
Do not replace mail records accidentally
A full nameserver change moves responsibility for the entire DNS zone. Recreate required website, mail and verification records before switching.
Complete setup
Publish content and secure the site
- Upload the website, install WordPress or open Sitejet Builder.
- Wait for public DNS to resolve to the hosting server.
- Issue an SSL/TLS certificate for the domain and www name.
- Enable the HTTPS redirect only after the certificate works.
- Test the home page, one inside page, a form and any mailbox route.
Troubleshooting
If Add Domain is missing or the website does not open
- Add Domain is unavailable
- The plan may permit only one website or your user role may lack permission.
- Domain already exists
- It may already be a domain, alias or subscription on this server. Do not create a duplicate.
- Plesk page appears
- DNS reaches the server, but the requested name is not mapped to the intended website.
- Old website still appears
- Check authoritative DNS and allow resolver caches to expire.
- Certificate warning
- Issue the certificate after DNS reaches the server; do not bypass the warning for customers.
