The registry refused an update to the domain object
Object status prohibits operation means a current domain status does not permit the requested change. The restriction may be set by the registrar or by the registry itself.
First attempt
Temporarily disable Registrar Lock
- Open Domains, My Domains and choose Domain Tools.
- Open Registrar Lock and disable it temporarily.
- Return to Nameservers, enter the required nameservers and save.
- When the update succeeds, return to Registrar Lock and enable it again.
Re-enable the lock promptly. It protects eligible domains against unauthorised transfer and changes.
If unlocking does not help
Another status may be blocking updates
- clientUpdateProhibited
- A registrar-managed restriction prevents domain updates
- serverUpdateProhibited
- The registry has frozen updates and registrar assistance is required
- Hold or suspension
- Verification, expiry, dispute or compliance action may need resolving first
A transfer-only status does not always block nameserver updates. The exact EPP or registry response is therefore important.
Evidence to collect
Give support enough detail to identify the lock
- The complete domain name and nameservers attempted.
- The exact error message displayed after saving.
- Whether Registrar Lock was disabled and the update retried.
- Any verification, suspension, expiry or dispute message visible for the domain.
Still receiving the same registry error?
Send the domain, intended nameservers and exact error. UKC can inspect the registrar response and determine whether a registry restriction must be removed.
