A mailbox and forwarding are different
Custom Domain Email stores mail and lets you send through authenticated SMTP. Free domain email forwarding only passes incoming messages to another inbox and does not provide storage, webmail or a sending service.
Fastest test
Sign in to Roundcube webmail first
- Open webmail.ukc.uk .
- Enter the complete email address as the Roundcube username.
- Enter the mailbox password from the welcome email or the current password you set.
- Send a test to an unrelated address, then reply to it.
Email application settings
Use the service username from your welcome email
- Incoming IMAP
- webmail.ukc.uk, port 993, SSL/TLS.
- Outgoing SMTP
- webmail.ukc.uk, port 587, STARTTLS, authentication required.
- SMTP alternative
- Port 465 with SSL/TLS.
- POP alternative
- Port 995 with SSL/TLS. Prefer IMAP for normal multi-device use.
- Application username
- The account username printed in the Custom Domain Email welcome email. It can differ from the mailbox address.
Do not guess the application username
Roundcube uses the complete email address. Email applications use the separate account username from the welcome email. Plesk-hosted mailboxes follow different rules and use the assigned Plesk server with the complete email address as username.
If setup fails
Test one layer at a time
- Confirm the mailbox works at webmail.ukc.uk.
- Check that both application server names are webmail.ukc.uk.
- Check IMAP 993 with SSL/TLS and SMTP 587 with STARTTLS.
- Enable SMTP authentication with the same application username and password.
- Remove an old saved password before entering the current one again.
Still unable to connect?
Send UKC the mailbox address, application and device versions, server names, ports, encryption choices and exact error. Never send the mailbox password.
