How to change a mailbox password

Reset the password where the mailbox is managed, then update every authorised mail application and website before testing the new credentials.

Change it in the service that manages the mailbox

A Custom Domain Email mailbox is managed from the domain's Custom Domain Email page. A mailbox included with web hosting is managed in Plesk. Changing your WHMCS Client Area password does not change either mailbox.

Change a parked-domain mailbox password

  1. Open My Domains and select Domain Tools.
  2. Open Custom Domain Email.
  3. Find the mailbox and select its manage or configure action.
  4. Choose the password option, enter a new unique password and save.

Change a hosting mailbox password

  1. Open My Services, choose the hosting service and select Log in to Plesk.
  2. Open Mail and select the mailbox address.
  3. Generate or enter a new strong password and select OK.

Update every authorised sender

  • Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail and other desktop applications.
  • Phones and tablets using IMAP, POP or SMTP.
  • WordPress SMTP plugins, contact forms and business applications.
  • Scanners, monitoring tools and any device that sends through the mailbox.

An old password saved on one device can keep generating failed logins. Update or remove that account rather than allowing it to retry indefinitely.

If you suspect compromise, change more than the password

Remove unknown forwarding rules and connected applications, scan devices, update website software and warn recipients about suspicious messages. Reusing the same password or a minor variation does not secure the account.

Confirm incoming and outgoing email

  1. Sign in to webmail with the new password.
  2. Send one message to an unrelated external account.
  3. Reply from that account and confirm the response returns.
  4. Only then update any remaining mail applications.

Cannot find the password control?

Tell us the mailbox address and whether its domain is parked or attached to a hosting service. Do not send the old password, new password or screenshots that reveal either one.
