UKC recommended email ports
Use IMAP 993 with SSL/TLS and SMTP 587 with STARTTLS. Enable SMTP authentication. Port 465 with SSL/TLS is the supported SMTP alternative. Use POP3 995 only when you deliberately want POP.
Choose the service
The server and username depend on the mailbox type
- Custom Domain Email
- Incoming and outgoing server: webmail.ukc.uk. Email application username: the account username in the welcome email. Roundcube username: complete email address.
- Plesk shared-hosting mailbox
- Incoming and outgoing server: the assigned Plesk server shown in Mail Client Setup or the hosting welcome email, such as ukc10.uk. Username: complete email address.
- Third-party email
- If the MX records point to Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another provider, use that provider's settings instead of UKC mail settings.
Secure settings
Match each port with the correct security method
- IMAP incoming
- Port 993 with SSL/TLS. Recommended because folders and message state synchronise across devices.
- POP3 incoming
- Port 995 with SSL/TLS. Use only for an intentional download-based setup.
- SMTP outgoing
- Port 587 with STARTTLS and authentication required.
- SMTP alternative
- Port 465 with SSL/TLS when the application requires implicit TLS.
Do not use port 25 in a normal email application and do not disable certificate validation.
Plesk mailboxes
Copy the exact hostname from Mail Client Setup
- Sign in to Plesk and open Mail.
- Select the information icon beside the mailbox.
- Open Mail Client Setup.
- Copy the incoming and outgoing server hostname shown there.
- Use the complete email address as the incoming and outgoing username.
Troubleshooting
Test webmail before changing the application
- Confirm the address and password work in the correct webmail service.
- Check the full server name, not only the port number.
- Confirm the selected security method matches the port.
- Enable outgoing authentication with the correct service username.
- Remove an obsolete saved password and test again.
Email still will not connect, send or receive?
Send UKC the mailbox type, address, application and device versions, server names, ports, security choices and exact error. Never send the mailbox password.
