Outgoing mail protection

BadMailFrom error when sending email

The UKC mail service has temporarily stopped outgoing messages from a sender after detecting activity associated with spam or a compromised account.

Stop repeated sending attempts

Repeated retries do not remove the restriction and can prolong suspicious activity. First determine whether the volume was expected and secure the mailbox if it was not.

Why the protection was triggered

  • A large number of messages were sent in a short period.
  • Recipients or remote providers classified messages as spam.
  • A stolen mailbox password is being used to send without your knowledge.
  • A compromised website, plugin or device is generating unwanted mail.

Secure the account immediately

  1. Change the mailbox password in Plesk to a new, unique password.
  2. Update the password on every authorised phone, computer and website.
  3. Scan those devices for malware and remove unknown mail applications or saved accounts.
  4. Update the website CMS, themes and plugins if the mailbox is used by a website.
  5. Check sent folders and website logs for activity you do not recognise.

Do not use a normal mailbox for bulk campaigns

Only send to people who expect the message and have consented where required. For newsletters or campaigns, use a reputable bulk-mail service that handles consent, unsubscribe requests, bounces and sending reputation. Spreading unsolicited mail across several hours does not make it acceptable.

The restriction normally clears automatically

Once unwanted sending has stopped, allow the protection time to reset before testing with one message. UKC support will not disable an active anti-spam safeguard simply to allow sending to continue.

Still blocked after securing the account?

Send the mailbox address, time of the latest test, whether the volume was expected, the security steps completed and the exact error. Never send the mailbox password.
