How to set up a mailing list in Plesk

Create a moderated Mailman list for a known group of subscribers, choose who may post and manage membership responsibly.

Use mailing lists only for expected, permission-based messages

A Plesk mailing list is useful for a club, committee or discussion group. It is not a substitute for a consent-aware marketing platform with campaign analytics, unsubscribe compliance and reputation controls.

Choose an administrator and list policy

  • Create or identify a working mailbox for the list administrator.
  • Use only subscribers who expect to receive the messages.
  • Decide whether only administrators, members or anyone may post.
  • Plan moderation for replies, bounces and unwanted submissions.

Create the mailing list

  1. Open My Services, select the hosting service and log in to Plesk.
  2. Go to Websites & Domains, choose the domain, open Mail, then Mailing Lists.
  3. Select Create Mailing List.
  4. Enter the address before @, keep the list switched on and provide the administrator's working email address.
  5. Add initial subscribers, one valid address at a time, and keep administrator notification enabled.
  6. Select OK and follow the administrator message.

Manage members and posting rules

In Plesk, choose Manage the list to open Mailman. Depending on the installed Mailman version, the administrator may create and verify a separate Mailman sign-in using the same email address held in Plesk.

Review membership, moderation, digest, privacy, bounce and posting settings before announcing the list address. Restrict posting to members or approved senders where appropriate.

Test with a small group first

  1. Add two consenting test recipients at unrelated providers.
  2. Send one short plain message to the list address.
  3. Confirm delivery, From and Reply-To behaviour.
  4. Test unsubscribe or removal and confirm it takes effect.
  5. Only then add the intended members.

No Mailing Lists tab?

The feature depends on the server and subscription configuration. Do not attempt to install or expose Mailman yourself on shared hosting; ask UKC whether it is available for the service.

The list is not delivering?

Send us the list address, administrator address, approximate member count, posting policy, time of one test and complete bounce or moderation result. Do not send the administrator password or subscriber export.
