The domain must send mail to this hosting service
Creating a mailbox does not change public DNS. If another provider's MX records are active, incoming messages continue there until the route is deliberately changed.
Plesk
Create the mailbox
- Open My Services, choose the hosting service and log in to Plesk.
- Open Mail and select Create Email Address.
- Enter the part before @ and choose the correct domain.
- Add an external recovery address that the mailbox owner can access.
- Leave Mailbox enabled, choose a suitable quota and generate a strong unique password.
- Select OK.
Choose carefully
Use a useful, maintainable address
- Use a role address such as support@ when responsibility may change.
- Use a personal address when one individual needs a private inbox.
- Avoid catch-all delivery; named addresses reduce unwanted mail.
- Use an alias when an extra address should reach an existing inbox.
Storage
Set a sensible mailbox quota
The quota limits messages stored on the server. IMAP users normally retain mail there, while POP may download it depending on the application. If the mailbox reaches its limit, new mail can be rejected, so review usage in Plesk and remove or archive old content before it becomes full.
First sign-in
Test with webmail before adding devices
- Open Roundcube using the webmail address for the domain or server.
- Sign in with the complete email address and mailbox password.
- Send one message to an unrelated external account.
- Reply and confirm it returns to the new inbox.
- Only then configure Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail or a phone.
Keep mailbox credentials separate
The mailbox password is not the Plesk or WHMCS Client Area password. Give it only to the authorised mailbox user and never place it in a support ticket.
The new mailbox is not receiving?
Check the domain's MX records and Plesk mail-service status. Send us the address, domain, server, time of an external test and complete bounce. Never send the password.
