How to Change DNS Records

Add, edit or remove records for a UKC parked domain and understand where to manage DNS for hosted domains.

First, identify where DNS is managed

The nameservers decide which DNS manager controls a domain. The Client Area shows whether the domain is UKC Parked, UKC Hosted or using another provider.

Parked, hosted or external?

UKC Parked
Use the Client Area DNS Manager
UKC Hosted
Use DNS Settings in Plesk
Another DNS provider
Make the change at that provider

UKC parked nameservers include ns.ukc.uk / ns2.ukc.uk and ns.microlite1.com / ns2.microlite1.com. UKC hosting nameservers use names such as ns.ukc12.uk.

Open the DNS Manager

  1. Sign in to the UKC Client Area and open Domains, then My Domains.
  2. Select Domain Tools beside the domain you want to change.
  3. Open DNS Manager from the domain menu.
  4. Wait for the zone status check to finish. The current records will then be shown.

Add a DNS record

  1. Select Add record.
  2. Enter the host. Use @ for the root domain, or enter a subdomain such as www.
  3. Choose the record type and enter the destination or value supplied by the service you are connecting.
  4. For an MX record, also enter the priority supplied by the mail provider.
  5. Select Add record and wait for the updated zone to appear.

Edit or delete an existing record

Select Edit beside a record, make the change and save it. To remove a record, select its delete icon and confirm the operation. Refresh the DNS Manager if an updated value is not immediately visible.

Use the search box and A, MX or TXT filters to find records quickly in a larger zone.

Check before changing mail records

Removing or replacing MX and email-related TXT records can stop mail delivery or affect SPF verification. Keep a copy of the original values and use the exact settings supplied by your email provider.

Allow time for DNS caches to update

The UKC zone is updated after the change is accepted, but internet providers and devices may temporarily retain the previous answer. The delay depends on the record's TTL and existing cache.

  • Confirm the new value appears in DNS Manager.
  • Allow existing DNS caches to expire before repeating the change.
  • Use Domain Diagnostics to compare the saved zone with public DNS.

Need to return to UKC parking?

Restore UKC defaults rebuilds the standard parked-domain records. Preview the proposed changes carefully because custom website and email records may be replaced.

Still need help?

Tell the Helpdesk the domain, record type, host and intended value. If a provider supplied the record, include their instructions but remove passwords and API keys.
