First decide whether the owner is changing
A new email address, postal address or telephone number for the same person or organisation is a contact update. Moving the domain to a different person or organisation is a registrant transfer.
Same registrant
Update contact details in your Client Area
Use the domain's Contact Information page when the legal owner is unchanged. This is suitable for a new address, telephone number or contact email belonging to the existing registrant.
- Sign in and open Domains, then My Domains.
- Choose the domain and open Contact Information.
- Update the required fields and save the changes.
Do not replace the registrant name with a different person or company. That requires the ownership-transfer process below.
Different registrant
Transfer ownership through Nominet
Nominet maintains the registry for .UK domains. The current registrant can use Nominet Online Services to move the domain to another person or organisation.
- Open Nominet Online Services .
- Sign in using the registrant email address held for the domain.
- Select the domain and choose the option to transfer it to someone else.
- Enter the new registrant's details carefully and follow Nominet's confirmation steps.
- After completion, allow time for the new ownership details to reach UKC.

Prepare the correct details
- Confirm the exact legal name of the new person or organisation.
- Use an email address the new registrant can access.
- For a company, have its registered name and company number available.
- Make sure both parties understand that this changes legal control of the domain.
Cannot access the registrant email?
Use Nominet's account-recovery and domain-support options. Nominet may need to verify the current registrant before permitting an ownership change. UKC cannot bypass that identity check.
