.ltd.uk is reserved for incorporated limited companies
The registrant must be an incorporated company listed at Companies House and entitled to use Limited, Ltd, cyfyngedig or cyf in its corporate name. Partnerships, sole traders and unincorporated organisations cannot register a .ltd.uk domain.
Choosing the domain
The name must come from the registered company name
Nominet applies a defined conversion process to the official company name. It removes the company ending, changes ampersands and plus signs to and, removes punctuation and accents, then converts spaces to hyphens or removes them.

An abbreviation, trading name or unrelated brand will normally be refused unless Nominet's conversion rules derive it from the registered company name.
Application details
Provide the exact Companies House record
- The company's complete registered name, including Limited or Ltd.
- The Companies House registration number, including any valid prefix.
- Registrant contact details belonging to the qualifying company.
- A requested domain that follows the registered company name.
If these details were not included with the order, send them to UKC support so that the application can be checked and submitted correctly.
After ordering
The domain may not register immediately
- UKC checks the requested domain against the company information supplied.
- The application is sent to Nominet with the registered company name and number.
- Nominet may review the application and request evidence of incorporation.
- The domain becomes active only after the registry accepts the application.
A pending or cancelled-looking order does not necessarily mean payment failed. It can mean that the registry application needs company details or that the requested domain does not meet the naming rules.
If the rules do not fit
Choose an unrestricted alternative
If you are registering a brand, project or trading name, a .co.uk or .uk domain is usually the better choice. A public limited company may qualify for .plc.uk under the corresponding company-domain rules.
